Designing a one-of-a-kind artist's memoir that explores the long-standing artistic collaborations of Waswo X. Waswo
Waswo X. Waswo is a photographer and writer who works with chemical process sepia-toned photographs of India, and also hand-coloured portraits made at his studio in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Waswo and his team weave visual narratives that blend vintage miniature painting techniques with digital photography, and the past with the present.
OVERVIEW
With a foreword by curator and historian Giles Tillotson and an introduction by art historian Annapurna Garimella, Karkhana is an extensive book commissioned by Waswo that documents his long and creative association with Indian artists, blending traditional miniature painting techniques with digital photography represented through a day-in-the-life style of anecdotal accounts.
It was important to weave text and imagery effectively so that the story was honest, personal and reflective of the meticulous detail in each artwork, while also cohesively combining the various styles and inspirations of each artist. Working closely with Waswo, we created an interesting, playful and captivating cloth-bound book that pulls the various threads and series of works together.
